DESCRIPTION

The Polk County History Center collection of gallery spaces currently includes an exhibit devoted to Polk Services to showcase the history of county government.  A new display to be added to the gallery is the Legacies in Polk Government Leadership.

The purpose of the program is to establish a formal, historical preservation initiative to recognize and honor Polk County elected or appointed officials of people important to county government history.

Nominations are to be made by the public through the Polk County Historical Commission, a nine-member advisory board who are appointed by the Board of County Commissioners.

Nominees considered must meet required criteria as outlined in the guidelines consisting of measurable contributions that brought about a turning point in government history.

Recognition of approved nominees will be accomplished through periodic updates to an exhibit on display at the History Center.

On March 7, 2024, the Polk County Historical Commission and the County Attorney’s Office approved the guidelines and application for nominees to be considered for the display.
