DESCRIPTION
Purpose: To collect and preserve historical materials relating to the history of Polk County and Florida. The Polk County Historical Commission shall also work to develop and establish reliable and sustainable sources of public, private and enterprise funding to ensure the continued operation of the Polk County Historical Museum and the Polk County Genealogical Library, and shall serve as an advisory commission to the Board of County Commissioners and the staff of the museum, library, and the Historic Preservation Manager.
Creating Authority: Established by Legislation in 1937 and amended over the years. Further updated and amended by the Florida Legislature in adopting CS/HB 745 in 2011, which was approved by the Governor on June 12, 2011. This act was codified as Chapter 2011-250 of the Laws of Florida.
Appointments: The membership of the advisory board shall consist of nine (9) members, who are electors of Polk County, Florida, and are appointed by the BoCC pursuant to the provisions of Section 1 of Chapter 2011-250 of the Laws of Florida.
Term Limits: Members shall serve initial staggered terms as set out in Section 2 of Chapter 2011-250. Thereafter, members shall serve staggered terms of 3 years each. Vacancies shall be filled by the BoCC for the unexpired term in the same manner as the original appointment. Members may be reappointed to serve one additional term.
Reason for Appointment: Expiration of current term. This is a District 1 appointment.
