DESCRIPTION

PURPOSE OF BOARD: To provide policy, fiscal and program guidance for all workforce development activities under Federal, State or Local initiatives as appropriate. To carry out other functions as specified in Federal, State or Local law, regulation or ordinance. To seek out, apply for and administer other independent grants for the furtherance of the Workforce Development Board’s mission.

CREATING AUTHORITY: Established pursuant to Executive Order 95-468 and Public Law 97-300.

MEMBERSHIP: Up to 36 but not less than 21. All members appointed by the BoCC. Private sector representatives such as owners of businesses, chief executives or chief operating officers, small business representatives including minority business. Public sector representatives such as a county commissioner, superintendent of schools, president of Polk State College, economic development agency, community-based organizations, community services block grant program rep., and the agency for workforce innovation.

TERM: 4 years

REASON FOR APPOINTMENT: New appointment.

 

RECOMMENDATION

Request Board appoint Fred Heid, Superintendent, Polk County Public Schools, to serve the four-year term, October 2022 through June 30, 2026.
