DESCRIPTION
Polk County Ordinance 08-015 authorizes the Fire Chief or the Fire Chief’s Designee to declare a Fire Department Burn Ban during periods in which the atmospheric conditions increase risk in brush fires and uncontrolled fires. Currently, the Fire Chief or the Fire Chief’s designee is required to publish the Burn Ban in a newspaper of general circulation in Polk County once during each week for two consecutive weeks and it creates a delay in the effective date of the Burn Ban. The delay increases the risk of brush fires and uncontrolled fires which may result in the loss of life and property.
The proposed amendment will expedite the process for the fire chief or his designee to declare or repeal a burn ban.
RECOMMENDATION
Adopt the proposed amendment to ordinance 08-15 expediting the process for the fire chief or his designee to declare or repeal burn ban.
