DESCRIPTION
With the continued strides and dedication in recruiting, we have not decreased the overtime issues for our field operation employees. The approval of the 75 additional positions will show our dedication to improving the work life balance of our employees and we are continuing to make efforts in reducing the overtime hours worked. Our focus will be on hiring 75 Firefighter Paramedic/EMT positions with an estimated annual recurring cost of $9,200,000. The amount of $9,200,000 includes salary and benefits.
For FY 24/25, roughly half of the annual expense is needed, so the transfer will cover six months of estimated recurring cost.
RECOMMENDATION
Approve the 75 additional Firefighter Paramedic/EMT positions to reduce overtime within our field operations.
FISCAL IMPACT
Funds are available for transfer from the General Fund Reserve for Budget Stabilization to the Fire Services Operations budget within the General Fund.
During the FY 25/26 budget process, the General Fund Reserve for Budget Stabilization will be fully replenished from the General Fund ending fund balance.
