DESCRIPTION
This agenda item is submitted on behalf of CareerSource Polk’s Board of Directors, reviewed and approved the following recommendations and authorized the request for Board of County Commissioners (BoCC) approval.
Pursuant to Section 107(b)(2)(A) of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), local workforce development boards must include representatives from the private sector who are owners of business concerns, chief executive officers, chief operating officers, or other private sector executives with substantial management or policy responsibility. Additionally, Section 107(b)(5) of WIOA and Section 445.007(1), Florida Statutes, require that, whenever possible, at least one-half of private sector members represent small businesses, defined as private, for-profit enterprises employing fewer than 500 people.
The proposed appointments are submitted to fill vacancies in the Business Sector and Education/Training Provider categories in order to ensure that the CareerSource Polk Board of Directors remains in compliance with its Bylaws and all applicable federal and state statutory requirements.

Education / Training Provider:
Dr. Andy Oguntola, Assistant Vice President of Enrollment, Florida Polytechnic University
Each nominee brings relevant leadership experience, professional expertise, and industry knowledge that will enhance the governance of CareerSource Polk and support workforce and economic development initiatives throughout Polk County. RECOMMENDATION
The CareerSource Polk Board of Directors respectfully requests that the Board of County Commissioners approve the appointments of Dr. Andy Oguntola, John Helms, and Tori Lehman to its Board of Directors, with terms effective July 1, 2026 and ending on June 30, 2030.
