DESCRIPTION
Wabash Park is located west of Lakeland and services the surrounding communities. The site includes the Wabash Resource Center and two acres of outdoor space which currently has a playground for younger children.
The Board approved the construction contract for Bid 26-050 with Central Concrete Products Inc. for the construction of a basketball court and walking trails at Wabash Park. These improvements are intended to expand recreational opportunities and enhance the park’s outdoor amenities for the surrounding community.
The original bid specifications included a painted and striped concrete playing surface for the basketball court. Parks and Natural Resources subsequently identified an opportunity to enhance the court by installing VersaCourt tile surfacing in place of the originally specified painted surface.
A portion of the cost for the VersaCourt tile system will be funded through the project allowance included in the original construction contract, with Change Order No. 1 providing the additional funding necessary to complete the upgraded court surface. The tile system will provide a finished recreational plying surface and enhance the overall basketball court improvements.
This project is funded through a Community Development Block Grant and included in the Parks and Natural Resources adopted Community Investment Program (CIP #3500066).
RECOMMENDATION
Request Board approve construction contract with Central Concrete Products Inc. for the Wabash Park Basketball Court and Sidewalk project in the amount of $40,989.00.
FISCAL IMPACT
Funds are budgeted and available in the 5-year Parks and Natural Resources CIP within the Special Revenue Community Development Block Grant Fund.
