DESCRIPTION
Consultant Services Authorization 18-067-03 was approved December 14, 2021 for the upgrade of Lift Station (LS) No. 253 which is located within the Providence development. Following the completion of the project's final design phase, the County requested additional revisions to the design to accommodate additional equipment, particularly a pad-mounted diesel-powered pump.
The modification was requested in response to changing regulatory concerns:
? Changes to Chapter 62-604.400, F.A.C., Design/Performance Considerations, added pumping equipment as an option for emergency pumping along with stand-by generators.
? Lift Station 253 is a master lift station located adjacent to homes and private property.
? Emergency pumping of regional lift stations is often inadequate for spill prevention.
? It is becoming common practice among utility providers to include back up pumps and stand by generators on large lift stations.
? The redesign of Lift Station 253 offered an opportunity to put "belt and suspenders" protection in place in a residential neighborhood.
? Frequent lightning strikes in the Northeast region threaten the reliability of stand-by generators.
Modification No. 1 (attached) accounts for the additional requested design services, additional construction progress meetings and the time extension necessary to complete the project.
