DESCRIPTION

Lake Marion covers over 3,000 acres in the Kissimmee River watershed, Northwest of Lake Hatchineha. Although the lake currently has public boat launching access located on the south-west side of the lake, parking and maneuverability are limited. Additionally, the current launching facility is located off a 90-degree corner along Jim Edwards Road, making it difficult to safely back into the facility due to passing traffic.

The purchase of the Bellini Preserve on the northeast side of the lake affords the opportunity to construct a larger boat launching facility with ample parking, better maneuverability, and safer year-round access. This boating facility is compatible with the intended purpose for the County to acquire the property.

This agreement will provide permits, construction plans and specifications for a boat ramp, dock, access road and parking facilities for boat launching. Following completion of the design elements, staff will pursue a grant from the Florida Boating Improvement Program (FBIP) for construction funding.
