DESCRIPTION
Earlier this year, Polk County issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) for employee life and disability insurance services and selected the incumbent provider, Hartford Insurance Company (Hartford), to continue administering coverage to County employees, spouses, and dependents.
This is a fully insured insurance policy under which Hartford assumes all risk and administrative responsibilities for the life and disability benefits. The new policy includes no change to County paid premiums and reflects an average increase of 4.7% to employee-paid voluntary life and disability premiums.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends Board approval authorizing the Risk Management Director to bind employee life and disability insurance coverage with Hartford Insurance Company, effective January 1, 2026.
FISCAL IMPACT
Funds are available in the General Fund budget.
