body
DESCRIPTION
The County works in partnership with the Department of Defense conserving lands near the Avon Park Air Force Range (APAFR) and to protect portions of the Florida Wildlife Corridor. In November 2024, the County approved Agreement No. SO253, for $500,000.00 to assist in the acquisition of lands to preserve uplands and wetlands that support sustainable water resources for agricultural operations and urban populations, support key wildlife conservation corridors to nearby protected lands and provide an economic benefit by supporting outdoor recreation and agricultural production. Commerce and the County approved Amendment One (S0253-A1) to allow for full-fee acquisitions near APAFR’s boundary.
The County has requested a time extension and Commence has drafted Amendment Two (S0253-A2) to provide a 3-month extension, which extends the agreement until September 30, 2026. The extension allows the County to have additional time to prepare the closing documents. The Commerce will reimburse the County up to $500,000 for acquisition of lands that satisfy the scope of work. The County will work with willing sellers that are within the priority areas around the APAFR to acquire property full fee or through conservation easement.
