SUMMARY
This summer the Polk TPO kicked off the I-4 Passenger Rail Station Study. This Study evaluates how future high-speed, intercity passenger rail service could connect Polk County with major Central Florida destinations and strengthen regional mobility. The Study will also examine multiple station location options along the I-4 corridor, while also assessing factors such as land availability, access to transportation infrastructure, connectivity to transit, bicycle and pedestrian networks, constructability, cost, and opportunities for economic development.
As Polk County continues to grow and congestion increases, this effort positions the area for future investment while ensuring that local communities’ needs and priorities are represented. The study also includes extensive stakeholder and community engagement through project advisory group meetings, surveys, pop up events, and ongoing coordination with the TPO Board, local governments and partner agencies to help guide the advancement of potential station concepts. The TPO currently has an open survey where the public can share their thoughts about the future of passenger rail in Polk County. The survey is available through this link: <https://www.research.net/r/PolkTPOi-4>
