DESCRIPTION
This agenda item is presented on behalf of the CareerSource Polk Board of Directors for the purpose of requesting approval of a recommended appointment and authorizing its submission to the Board of County Commissioners (BoCC) for final approval.
Pursuant to Section 107(b)(2)(A) of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), local workforce development boards are required to include representatives of the private sector, including, but not limited to, owners of business concerns, chief executive officers, chief operating officers, or other individuals with substantial management or policy-making authority. Additionally, Section 107(b)(5) of WIOA, in conjunction with Section 445.007(1), Florida Statutes, requires that, to the extent practicable, not less than fifty percent of private sector members represent small businesses, defined as private, for-profit enterprises employing fewer than 500 employees.
The proposed appointment is submitted to fill an existing vacancy within the Education and Training Provider category, representing a private educational institution. Approval of this appointment will ensure that the CareerSource Polk Board of Directors remains in full compliance with its Bylaws and all applicable federal and state statutory requirements.
