DESCRIPTION
The Seminole Tribe of Florida has requested the County enter into an agreement to provide ongoing fire protection and emergency rescue services within a parcel of land located in Polk County and held in trust for the use and benefit of the Tribe. The subject land contains approximately 44 single family residences, and services will be provided on a 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, first call basis. In exchange for the County providing such services, which commenced on January 1, 2021, the Tribe will pay the County a one-time true-up payment of $47,740, which represents the value of the first 3 years of service (FY2021-FY2023). The County will continue to invoice the Tribe annually based on rates established by the Polk County Board of County Commissioners by adoption of the County’s Fire Fee Assessment, Fire and EMS Impact Fee Rates, and the EMS portion of the Ad Valorem Tax.
The proposed Interlocal Agreement will be made effective as of January 1, 2021, and will continue through December 31, 2025. Thereafter, the Agreement will automatically renew for continuous 1-year periods, unless terminated by either party.
