DESCRIPTION
The Fire Rescue Division utilizes a piggyback agreement from Miami-Dade County with Fire-Dex GW, LLC dba Gear Wash to procure bunker gear cleaning and repair services. This service ensures that each set of bunker gear is cleaned and repaired, if necessary, in compliance with the National Fire Protection Association’s Standard 1851 after an incident. Bunker gear maintenance is vital for firefighter cancer prevention along with reducing health and safety risks associated with improperly or poorly maintained gear.
This agreement has recently expired and after finding that no Polk County entities can provide the services, the Fire Rescue Division requested assistance from Procurement to piggyback a new Miami-Dade County agreement for the cleaning and repair of bunker gear with Fire-Dex GW, LLC dba Gear Wash as a result of Bid EVN0000251.
This new agreement with Fire-Dex GW, LLC dba Gear Wash will allow the Fire Rescue Division to continue to purchase required cleaning and repair services and remain in compliance with the National Fire Protection Association’s standards.
The term of the agreement is through October 31, 2028.
RECOMMENDATION
Request Board approve a piggyback agreement with Fire-Dex GW, LLC dba Gear Wash for cleaning and repair of bunker gear services for the Fire Rescue Division.
FISCAL IMPACT
Funding is available within Fire Rescue’s operating fund.
