DESCRIPTION
Polk County Solid Waste receives approximately 52,000 tons of unprocessed yard waste from citizens and commercial companies annually at the North Central Landfill. The County has a permit with Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) to have this yard waste processed into mulch and moved into the landfill cell for daily coverage. These services are currently provided under a piggyback agreement via a Hillsborough County agreement that expires on June 30, 2026.
To stay compliant with our FDEP permit and to not interrupt service, the Solid Waste Division is requesting to piggyback the new Hillsborough County agreement with Veransa. The County will temporarily utilize Veransa for these services through an emergency purchase until the approval and execution of this piggyback agreement.
There are no local vendors that provide these services.
The term of the agreement is five years.
RECOMMENDATION
Request Board approve piggyback agreement with Veransa Group for yard waste processing services at the North Central Landfill ($1,300,000.00 estimated annual expense).
FISCAL IMPACT
Funds are available for these services within the Solid Waste operating budget.
