Adopt Resolution Setting Truck Restrictions on Brooks Road and Monk Road (near Frostproof). ($271.02 one-time expense)
body
DESCRIPTION
Polk County Roads & Drainage received a request from an area resident to post No Thru Trucks signs on Brooks Road and Monk Road. In researching the request, staff discovered that some commercial truck drivers are utilizing Brooks Road and Monk Road to travel from County Road 630 (north-south section) to County Road 630 (east-west section) and vice versa. Commercial trucks cannot easily navigate these roadways, which are residential in nature. The Roads & Drainage Division proposes to restrict thru commercial vehicles along Brooks Road and Monk Road, to encourage truck traffic to use County Road 630, rather than travel through a residential area.
FS 316.008 allows local governments to prohibit or regulate the use of certain roadways by any class or kind of traffic found to be incompatible with the normal and safe movement of traffic. Based on staff research, it was determined that postings of “No Thru Trucks” for Brooks Road and Monk Road will benefit the residents in the area, as well as the traveling public, by restricting commercial traffic.
RECOMMENDATION
Request Board adopt the associated Resolution to establish truck restrictions for Brooks Road and Monk Road. Estimated cost for installation of the signs is $271.02.
FISCAL IMPACT
Funds are budgeted in the FY 24/25 Transportation Millage Fund.
