DESCRIPTION
The existing Polk County Waterway Protection code was adopted in 1991 and has been amended multiple times. Considering that Polk County has approximately five hundred fifty (550) lakes covering over ninety-three thousand (93,000) acres, a clear and concise water protection code is instrumental to the management and preservation of these areas. Additionally, many of these lakes are used for swimming and other water related activities. As a result, Polk County desires to ensure that the waterway protection code is up to date and effective at addressing issues related to the impacts of these activities on County waters.
