body
DESCRIPTION
One test production well has been constructed for the West Polk project located at the Water Production Facility site in Lakeland. A second test production well was requested during the third-party review by the Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD) to obtain additional water quality and quantity data within the wellfield alignment. This well will provide such data and then can be converted to one of the needed production wells for the water production facility.
Test Production Well #3 for the Southeast Project, also known as Well Site 13, was constructed south of the Southeast Water Production Facility. This well will be converted to a production well. Four additional production wells (Sites 9, 10, 11 and 14) are necessary for the Southeast Wellfield project to supply 7.5 MGD of alternative supply water to participating members. To reduce project costs, these wells have been removed from the Florida Water Partners contract and will instead be contracted directly by the PRWC with TeamOne oversight assistance.
At the March 20, 2024, Board of Directors meeting, the Board authorized staff to publish an advertisement for a qualified well driller to construct West Polk Test Production Well #2 and Southeast Wellfield production wells 9, 10, 11, and 14. The City of Lakeland Procurement Division (on behalf of the PRWC) advertised the project for bid on June 11, 2024. On July 25, 2024, three bids were received from qualified drilling contractors (see table below). The Project was subsequently awarded to the low bid from Florida Design Drilling, LLC.
