DESCRIPTION
The Human Resources Division plans to complete in-house criminal history record checks for applicants for employment and people continuing employment for Polk County Government instead of using third party companies resulting in huge cost savings for the County.
Florida Statutes (2025) Section 125.5801, authorizes the Board of County Commissioners to adopt an Ordinance to mandate state and federal criminal history records checks for applicants for employment and persons continuing employment, in positions deemed by the Board to be critical to security or to public safety regarding any facility owned or operated by Polk County, Florida.

RECOMMENDATION
Set a public hearing for November 4, 2025 for purposes of considering adoption of an ordinance requiring criminal history screening requirements.
