DESCRIPTION
Public Law 113-128, the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), mandates that the state workforce development board create and implement a State Workforce Development Plan. According to WIOA Section 106, the Governor is responsible for designating local workforce development areas within the state. WIOA promotes the establishment of planning regions to synchronize workforce development activities and resources with broader regional economic development areas, ensuring coordinated and efficient services for both job seekers and employers. The objective of regional planning is to develop, align, and integrate strategies and resources to foster regional economic growth.
CareerSource Polk seeks the Commission’s approval to align with CareerSource Hillsborough Pinellas, CareerSource Pasco Hernando, and CareerSource Suncoast to form the Tampa Bay Regional Planning Area to fulfill the legislative intent and serve to enhance regional workforce development efforts.
RECOMMENDATION
Approve CareerSource Polk’s request to align with CareerSource Hillsborough Pinellas, CareerSource Pasco Hernando, and CareerSource Suncoast to form the Tampa Bay Regional Planning Area and authorize the Chairman to sign the approval forms on behalf of Polk County.
