DESCRIPTION
The Roads & Drainage Division received a request from an area resident to post speed limits on two roads within the area. In researching the request, the Roads & Drainage Division discovered that Resolutions setting speed limits for Christopher Court and Lake Mariam Drive South could not be found and may not exist. Christopher Court and Lake Mariam Drive South are located in the Winter Haven area in S-34, T-28S, R-26E, and are classified as Local Residential roads.
Staff conducted traffic studies within the area, as outlined in Section 316.189 of the Florida Statutes, and investigated the five-year crash history. It was subsequently determined that postings of 20 M.P.H. are reasonable for Lake Mariam Drive South and Christopher Court. To comply with statutory requirements, it is necessary for the Board to adopt a Resolution establishing the proposed speed limits.
RECOMMENDATION
Request Board adopt the associated Resolution to establish the proposed speed zones for Lake Mariam Drive South and Christopher Court. Cost for installation of signs is estimated at $721.32.
FISCAL IMPACT
Funds are budgeted in the FY 25/26 Transportation Millage Fund.
