DESCRIPTION
On July 25, 2023, the Board approved the appointment of Michael B. Schmidt as a Planning Commission member for a three-year term, commencing September 1, 2023, and ending August 31, 2026.
The members of the Planning Commission serve at the pleasure of the Board, pursuant to Section 973.B of the Polk County Land Development Code. Recently, Mr. Schmidt has made comments on the record that call into question his ability to evaluate cases brought before the Planning Commission in an impartial manner. Accordingly, this item has been placed on the agenda, as directed by the Board, to discuss and consider the removal of Michael B. Schmidt as a member of the Planning Commission, effective immediately.
In the event Mr. Schmidt is removed from the Planning Commission, the Board shall promptly fill the vacancy in accordance with the membership criteria set forth in Section 973.B of the Land Development Code.
RECOMMENDATION
Recommend the Board discuss and make a decision whether or not to remove Michael B. Schmidt as a member of the Polk County Planning Commission, effective immediately.
