DESCRIPTION
Lake Lowery is an approximately 900-acre lake located just northwest of the City of Haines City in unincorporated Polk County. Over the past several years the Roads & Drainage Division has received flooding complaints from residents who reside around the lake. The Roads & Drainage Division applied for and received cooperative funding from the Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD) to conduct a comprehensive study of the watershed. SWFWMD agreed to provide a cooperative match (50/50) of the estimated $100,000 needed to complete the study.

On January 18, 2022, the Board approved CSA 17-57-07 that authorized the Consultant to evaluate and identify possible conveyance improvements to the Lake Lowery Outfall. The CSA was for a not-to-exceed amount of $99.449.58. The study has been on-going for several years and has had to overcome several technical and stakeholder challenges as documented in previous modifications.

Recently, the SWFWMD has been co-reviewing the final draft of the study with the Saint Johns River Water Management District (SJRWMD). The SJRWMD and SWFWMD are critical stakeholders that will need to approve any changes that alter Lake Lowery's water levels. The SJRWMD has now completed their review and has requested changes to the hydraulic model developed for the study. The Consultant has requested additional funds in the amount of $15,067.46 to address the proposed changes and add an additional 395-days from the previous expiration date of April 12, 2025. The new expiration date for this CSA will be May 12, 2026.
