DESCRIPTION
Code enforcement cites property owners for building without a permit relating to additions, remodels, and sheds on owner occupied residential property where the additions, remodels, and sheds are greater than six (6) years old at the time of the complaint. Many times, property owners then attempt to obtain a building permit to resolve the violation. In these cases, because of the age of the additions, remodels, and sheds, it is difficult for the building department to determine compliance with the Florida Building Code. These complex issues strain the limited resources of code enforcement and the building department. The proposed Ordinance attempts to resolve this by limiting code enforcement and building action for building additions, remodels, and sheds on owner occupied residential properties without a permit when the additions, remodels, and sheds are greater than six (6) years old.
RECOMMENDATION
Set a public hearing for December 5, 2023, to consider the adoption of an ordinance limiting code enforcement and building action for the building additions, remodels, and sheds on owner occupied residential property without a permit, when the additions, remodels, and sheds are greater than six (6) years old, at the time of the complaint.
