body
DESCRIPTION
The County Road 557 Widening Project - South Segment Addition is a proposed four lane roadway alignment located in North-Central Polk County near the City of Lake Alfred. The corridor limits are from the intersection of US 17/92 (Shinn Boulevard) and W Alfred St. (approximately 0.2 miles).
On December 26, 2018, the Board approved Consulting Service Agreement (CSA) #18-73 with Dewberry Engineers, Inc. (Consultant) for the purpose of providing professional services in connection with the CR 557 Widening Project including developing and evaluating alternative roadway design and alignment, recommending a preferred alignment, and preparing preliminary roadway plans for widening of CR 557.
On December 6, 2022, the BoCC approved Amendment #2 to the CSA, to engage the Consultant to develop and evaluate alternative roadway design and alignments, provide a recommendation, and prepare preliminary and final plans for improvements to the CR 557 and U 92 intersection in Lake Alfred.
The recommended alignment was selected after the Consultant evaluated two viable alternative routes (one following the existing alignment, and one providing a 90-degree intersection with US 92) to identify the most feasible and cost-effective alternative. After considering the two alternative routes, environmental factors, costs, long range planning, and safety considerations, the recommended alignment is following the existing alignment of CR 557 from US 92 to W. Alfred St.
RECOMMENDATION
Request Board adopt the resolution approving the recommended alignment for the County Road 557 Widening Project - South Segment Addition project.
FISCAL IMPACT
