DESCRIPTION
The Polk County Charter specifies the county manager's appointment of executive service employees is subject to confirmation by the Board of County Commissioners.
The County Manager has appointed Ms. LaShanda Salters to the position of Director of the Polk County Court Services Division, effective September 2, 2025.
LaShanda has 25 years of experience in the criminal justice field. She began her career in the late 1990s with the Leon County Clerk of Courts, serving as a Deputy Clerk and Court Specialist. In 2004, she transitioned into probation services, beginning as a Senior Probation Officer. Over the years, she advanced through supervisory roles in pretrial release, drug and alcohol testing, and court operations. Since 2019, she has served as Polk's Probation Program Manager for the Polk County Court Services Division, overseeing misdemeanor probation, electronic monitoring, and specialized court programs.
LaShanda earned her Associate of Arts degree in Paralegal from Keiser University, her Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Florida A&M University, and her Master of Business Administration with a minor in Public Administration from Thomas University. She has completed certifications in Public Management and Lean Six Sigma, and has served on Polk's Domestic Violence Taskforce.
Ms. Salters' family is also committed to the Polk County public service ranks with her son serving in the Polk County Fire Rescue Division and her daughter serving in the Court Services - Pretrial Section.
RECOMMENDATION
Recommend the Board confirm the appointment of Ms. LaShanda Salters to serve as the Director of the Polk County Court Services Division, effective September 2, 2025.
