body

DESCRIPTION

Public hearing to consider adopting an ordinance increasing the amount of money the Director of the Polk County Risk Management Division (“Risk Manager”) may issue or receive in settlement payments for claims which do not exceed fifty-thousand dollars ($50,000). Currently, the Risk Manager may settle claims which do not exceed twenty-five-thousand dollars ($25,000) so long as they have the written approval of both the County Attorney and a Deputy County Manager. Despite the increase, the procedural requirements for the two signatures to settle claims would remain the same. If the ordinance is passed, then the Risk Manager will handle the settlement of claims which do not exceed $50,000. If, after this ordinance is passed, a claim does exceed $50,000, then it will be handled by the Claims Review Committee.

RECOMMENDATION

Adopt the ordinance.

FISCAL IMPACT

None.
