DESCRIPTION
The Roads and Drainage Division requested Procurement to solicit bids from qualified contractors who were interested in the construction of a half mile long, ten-foot-wide path, on the east side of Wabash Avenue from Ariana Street to Jesse Keen Elementary School. The construction will also include a quarter mile long, five-foot-wide sidewalk, from Jesse Keen Elementary School to Hickory Street. The construction will consist of building a crossover island, road widening, adding a turn lane, drainage construction, utility relocation, pipe installation, building retaining walls, and installing handrails where needed.
The purpose of this project is to enhance safety, mobility, and access on this corridor for all road users. This project will also renew the aesthetic and economic vitality of the area. The need for these improvements is supported by high volumes of pedestrian and bicycle traffic on the segment, frequent crashes during nighttime at the intersection of Wabash Avenue and Highland Street. Additionally, traffic on this corridor is expected to increase due to proposed southern and northern extensions of Wabash Avenue.
Bid 23-377, Wabash Avenue Multi-use Trail, was issued and three contractors submitted a bid.
