DESCRIPTION
The County’s current excess Workers’ Compensation insurance policy, written with Midwest Employers Casualty Company, expires on December 31, 2025. Midwest maintains an AM Best rating of A+ (Superior) and has served as the County’s excess carrier since 2005, providing strong financial stability and continuity of service.
This policy provides catastrophic workers’ compensation coverage for the Board of County Commissioners and all five Constitutional Offices. Risk Management, in coordination with Brown & Brown, marketed the coverage, solicited competitive proposals, and evaluated pricing and terms. Midwest Employers Casualty Company submitted the most favorable renewal quote. The expiring annual premium is $299,358; the renewal premium is $306,892, representing an approximate 2.4% increase.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends Board approval authorizing the Risk Management Director to bind renewal coverage with Midwest Employers Casualty Company for the 2026 policy term at a total premium of $306,892.
FISCAL IMPACT
Funds are available in the Risk Management General Fund budget.
