DESCRIPTION
Polk County and the City of Lakeland propose to enter into an Interlocal Agreement providing up to $300,000 in Tourist Development Tax funds for facility enhancements at McGee Park that will support large-scale sporting events and attract tourists and out-of-county participants. The City will manage the improvements; fund project costs above the County's contribution, total cost $761,000; and provide quarterly expenditure reports. The improvements must be completed by June 30, 2027. In return, the County will receive an annual 100% discount on the City's base rental fees and first-priority use of the Park, subject to the Agreement, during its ten-year term. The Tourist Development Council unanimously approved this expense at their meeting on August 20, 2026.
RECOMMENDATION
Approve the Interlocal Agreement between Polk County and the City of Lakeland for Tourist Development Tax funding for facility enhancements at John McGee Park and authorize the Chair to execute the Agreement.
FISCAL IMPACT
The fiscal impact is a one-time expense not to exceed $300,000. This expense is budgeted, and funds are available in the Tourism and Sports Marketing FY 2025-26 Budget.
