SUBJECT
title
Adopt a Resolution Setting Commercial Truck Restrictions on County Road 655 (Lake Shipp Drive South), near Winter Haven. (No Fiscal Impact)
body
DESCRIPTION
In October 2019, the Florida Department of Transportation transferred a portion of State Road 655 (Lake Shipp Drive South) to the Polk County Board of County Commissioners as part of a road transfer agreement between the two agencies. Because County Road 655 (Lake Shipp Drive South) was historically maintained by an agency other than Polk County, there is currently no Resolution on file to support existing commercial truck restrictions on this roadway.
FS 316.008 allows local governments to prohibit or regulate the use of certain roadways by any class or kind of traffic found to be incompatible with the normal and safe movement of traffic. Based on staff research, it was determined that postings of “No Thru Trucks” for County Rod 655 (Lake Shipp Drive South) will benefit the residents in the area, as well as the traveling public, by restricting commercial traffic.
To comply with statutory requirements, it is necessary for the Board to adopt a Resolution establishing the commercial truck restrictions.
RECOMMENDATION
Request Board adopt the associated Resolution to establish commercial truck restrictions for County Road 655 (Lake Shipp Drive South).
FISCAL IMPACT
There is no fiscal impact associated with this agenda item.
