SUBJECT
title
Adopt a Resolution Setting Parking Restrictions on Adele Road, Boots Road, Peak Avenue, and Porter Street, within the High Pointe North Subdivision, near Lakeland. ($3,802.95 one-time expense)
body
DESCRIPTION
In November 2018, the Board of County Commissioners approved the Subdivision Parking Restriction Policy, which allows subdivision homeowners associations to propose parking restrictions on one side of the street for roads within the subdivision. The Roads & Drainage Division subsequently received a request from the High Pointe North Homeowners Association to restrict parking within the subdivision. High Pointe North is located in the Lakeland area in S-10, T-275S, R-23E and its roads are classified as Local Residential roads.
Staff conducted a field visit within the subdivision and found no engineering issues that would prevent the restriction of parking in the areas proposed by the homeowners association. Staff subsequently mailed ballots to the homeowners, and received opposition votes of less than 33%, per the Policy.
FS 316.008 gives the Board of County Commissioners authority to set parking restrictions on County roadways. Additionally, the posting of the restrictions will promote public safety and assist the Polk County Sheriff’s Office in their enforcement efforts. To comply with statutory requirements, it is necessary for the Board to adopt a Resolution establishing the parking restrictions.
RECOMMENDATION
Request Board adopt the associated Resolution to establish parking restrictions for High Pointe North. Estimated cost for installation of the signs is $3,802.95.
FISCAL IMPACT
Funding is budgeted in the FY 24/25 Transportation Millage Fund.
