SUBJECT

title

Accept a Drainage Easement for a portion of an existing drainage ditch in conjunction with a drainage system known as Blackwater Creek, Byrd parcel. (No fiscal impact)

body

DESCRIPTION

The County maintains an existing drainage system known as Blackwater Creek to the north of Knights Station Road and to the west of Kathleen Road in the Lakeland area.  The County has obtained drainage easements from property owners at various times for the drainage ditches associated with the system; however, there are intermittent gaps in the system for which no easements can be located which makes maintenance activities difficult.  Over the years the County has contacted property owners along the system and requested drainage easements to allow for maintenance of the drainage ditches.  The owners of a property located along the north side of Shady Oaks Drive, David and Melissa Byrd, recently agreed to the County’s request and have executed and delivered a Drainage Easement to the County over a drainage ditch located near the rear of their property.  The County has easements over the properties on either side of the Byrd’s property for the drainage ditch.  Accepting the aforementioned Drainage Easement will give the County the easement needed a portion of the drainage ditch and allow for more efficient maintenance of the existing drainage system.

RECOMMENDATION

Request Board accept the aforementioned Drainage Easement.

FISCAL IMPACT

No fiscal impact.
