DESCRIPTION

In February 2004, the Board of County Commissioners adopted the Polk County Residential Traffic Calming Policy (the “Policy”).  The Policy provides specific criteria to be met for traffic calming to be considered and a process for community involvement in implementing solutions to residential traffic problems.

At the direction of the Board, the Policy has been revised to allow the placement of traffic calming measures on Collector roads if the criteria listed below are met in addition to other criteria in the Policy.

(a)                     the road length is one mile or less;

(b)                     the existing driveway spacing on the road frontage is on average less than 100 feet;

(c)                     at least 70% of the road frontage lies within a residential land use category; and

(d)                     must be a two-lane roadway.

RECOMMENDATION

Approve the updated Policy.

FISCAL IMPACT
