DESCRIPTION

The Parks and Natural Resources Division (PNR) conducts routine ambient water sampling and identified Bear Branch stream to have some of the highest nutrient loading in the County. Bear Branch is a stormwater conveyance system, located within the City of Bartow, that funnels stormwater to the Peace River. Staff sought funding assistance from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) to implement innovative technology to remove high nutrients found in the stream and improve water quality. These services include a quality assurance project plan, monitoring activities, and a final report to provide to FDEP.

Request for Proposal (RFP) 23-573, Professional Engineering Services for Lake Deeson & Bear Branch was issued, and one firm submitted a proposal. On December 5, 2023, the Board approved the selection committee’s recommendation and authorized staff to enter negotiations with the one firm, EutroPHIX. The attached agreement is the result of those negotiations.

It is anticipated these services will be completed by May 1, 2025; however, the agreement will stay in place until all services are complete.

This project is fully funded through a FDEP Innovative Technology grant.
