DESCRIPTION
The County has received complaints concerning off road vehicle, and other, activities on unmaintained right-of-way lying to the east of US Highway 27 in the Haines City area. The complaints are concerning off-road vehicle, motorcycle and all-terrain vehicle use by the public as well as other unwanted activities within the platted, unmaintained, north/south right-of-way between Holly Hill Road and Florida Development Road. After a review of the area it was determined that a portion of a County maintained unpaved roadway known as Holly Hill Fruit Road as well as a portion of unmaintained platted right-of-way extending easterly therefrom were not being utilized by the adjacent developments and are potentially contributing to the ongoing issues. The County has a project to construct a new 2-lane roadway within the north/south right-of-way which is in the early stages of design and will be several years before it is constructed and open to the traveling public. In the meantime it is requested that the rights-of-way be temporarily closed to public vehicular traffic thereby allowing for the installation of proper signage and/or a vehicular barrier to control access and allow local law enforcement to properly enforce the area which will assist in thwarting the unwanted activities within the right-of-way until the project is completed. Access for medical, emergency, fire protection, law enforcement and public utility service providers will continue to be allowed during the pendency of the proposed closure.
