DESCRIPTION

Through Senate Bill 1954, the State of Florida created the Resilient Florida Program to plan, prioritize and invest in projects that provide regional flood resilience. The State designated funding for projects that help communities prepare for impacts related to extreme weather events. To be eligible for this funding, entities must complete a Vulnerability Assessment (VA) Plan, and designate priority projects for funding. Polk County is on schedule to complete a county-wide VA Plan by fall of 2026.

With goals to improve water quality and protect open space corridors, Polk County executed Grant Agreement #24PLN59 with FDEP in 2024, to conduct a Comprehensive Vulnerability Assessment Report, Adaptation Plan (PLAN). The PLAN will provide a list of water quality and wildlife corridor projects that provide regional resilience to the surrounding communities.

Amendment #2 is a time extension and modification to task milestones deadlines. The deliverables include a draft and final version detailing critical resources that may be affected by flood conditions during a 100-year, 200-year and 500-year flood event. The PLAN will help facilitate future management of county resources and prioritize projects for future funding opportunities.

The project has been approved by STAC.
