Adopt Resolution Setting Truck Restrictions on Bryant Road (near Lakeland). ($82.72 one-time expense)
body
DESCRIPTION
Polk County Roads & Drainage received complaints from area residents regarding the use of commercial trucks on Bryant Road. At its meeting on January 23, 2024, the Board of County Commissioners adopted Resolution 2024-010 to restrict all commercial truck traffic on Bryant Road.
Subsequent analysis has revealed that a general restriction of commercial truck traffic along this roadway unintentionally restricts delivery truck traffic as well as the dump truck/semi traffic it was intended to restrict. Therefore, the Roads & Drainage Division proposes that the Board adopt a modified resolution that would restrict only Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Class 6 through Class 13 trucks, thereby allowing delivery truck traffic, while restricting dump truck/semi traffic.
FS 316.008 allows local governments to prohibit or regulate the use of certain roadways by any class or kind of traffic found to be incompatible with the normal and safe movement of traffic. Based on staff research, it was determined that postings of “No Thru Trucks” for Bryant Road will benefit the residents in the area, as well as the traveling public, by restricting commercial traffic.
RECOMMENDATION
Request Board adopt the associated Resolution to establish FHWA Class 6 through Class 13 truck restrictions for Bryant Road. Also Request Board repeal Resolution 2024-010, Dated January 23, 2024. Estimated cost for installation of the signs is $82.72.
