DESCRIPTION

Each year, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) requests that the Board of County Commissioners serve as the coordinating unit of government for the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant - Countywide (JAGC) Program. This designation allows Law Enforcement Agencies throughout the county to submit applications for JAGC funds allocated to Polk County.

The Certificate of Participation is a required component of the grant application and affirms the County’s role in coordinating the local allocation of JAGC funds. The Board has fulfilled this coordinating role since 1989.

RECOMMENDATION

Approve and authorize the Chair to execute the Certificate of Participation for the Edward Byrne Justice Assistance Grant - Countywide (JAGC) Program for FY 2024, designating the Polk County Board of County Commissioners as the coordinating unit of government.

FISCAL IMPACT

There is no direct fiscal impact to the County for executing the Certificate of Participation. JAGC funds are distributed to eligible local agencies and organizations for approved criminal justice initiatives.
