body

DESCRIPTION

The Polk County Board of County Commissioners enacted Ordinance 02-0065 and its amendment 07-0014, in accordance with F.S. 318.1215. This created a Driver Education Trust Fund which requires the Clerk of Courts to collect an additional $5.00 with each civil traffic penalty, excluding parking violations, to fund traffic education programs in public and non-public schools.

The Clerk of Courts keeps track of these collections and then sends them to the Board of County Commissioners to be deposited into the trust fund. Attached is a report showing the revenue collected and prior year cash balance.

The County distributes these funds on an annual basis, with allocation based on the number of participants that completed “Behind the Wheel” training for qualified applicants.

The Vanguard School suspended its program in FY 20/21 and has not reimplemented.

RECOMMENDATION

Request Board approve the distribution of funds from the Driver Education Trust Fund in the amount of $436,645.33 to the Polk County School Board.

FISCAL IMPACT

Funds are available in the Driver Education Trust Fund within the General Fund.
