body
DESCRIPTION
Polk County Roads & Drainage recently received a request from an area resident to restrict commercial trucks within the local streets of Highland Park Manor. In researching the request, staff discovered that, since the installation of traffic calming devices on Friedlander Road and Tangelo Street, some commercial truck drivers are utilizing Laura Street, Lilly Street, Linda Street, Lisa Street, and Lydia Street to travel between Hunt Brothers Road and Friedlander Road. These roads are narrow, mostly residential in nature, and are not conducive to commercial truck traffic. The Roads & Drainage Division proposes to restrict through commercial vehicles along Laura Street, Lilly Street, Linda Street, Lisa Street, and Lydia Street to encourage truck traffic to use Friedlander Road and Tangelo Street to travel between Hunt Brothers Road and Friedlander Road.
FS 316.008 allows local governments to prohibit or regulate the use of certain roadways by any class or kind of traffic found to be incompatible with the normal and safe movement of traffic. Based on staff research, it was determined that postings of “No Thru Trucks” for the roads within Highland Park Manor will benefit the residents in the area, as well as the traveling public, by restricting commercial traffic.
To comply with statutory requirements, it is necessary for the Board to adopt a Resolution establishing the commercial truck restrictions.
RECOMMENDATION
Request Board adopt the associated Resolution to establish commercial truck restrictions for Laura Street, Lilly Street, Linda Street, Lisa Street, and Lydia Street.
FISCAL IMPACT
Funds are budgeted in the FY 26/27 Transportation Millage Fund.
