body

DESCRIPTION

The owners of a parcel of land located near Lake Lowery Road in the Lake Alfred area contacted County staff to inquire if the County had any interest in purchasing the property.  The property, identified as Parcel ID Number 262715-000000-011000 is a rectangular, vacant parcel containing approximately 59-acres.  County staff reviewed the parcel and determined that the property is located adjacent to a conservation area known as the Lake Lowery Marsh Management Area which is jointly owned by the County and the Southwest Florida Water Management District.  Additionally, the property is located within a state designated conservation area known as the Green Swamp Florida Forever - Board of Trustees Project area.  Acquiring the parcel would allow it to be incorporated into, and aide in the overall land management of, the area.  Discussions with the owners, Wenyang C. Tai and Yuk Sim C. Tai, his wife, have resulted in a proposed purchase price of $10,000 for the property and they have executed a Land Purchase Agreement.  Approving the Land Purchase Agreement will allow the County to purchase and take ownership of the property for use in the management, and conservation, area.

RECOMMENDATION

Request Board approve the aforementioned Land Purchase Agreement and authorize the issuance of funds in the amount of $10,000 for the purchase.

FISCAL IMPACT

Funds are available in the amount of $10,000 for the purchase in the Environmental Lands Acquisition Fund.
