DESCRIPTION
The Maine Ave Safe Route to School (SRTS) project includes a 5-foot to 6-foot wide ADA compliant concrete sidewalk and crosswalk along the south side of Maine Avenue in Lakeland. The corridor limits of the project are from Combee Rd to Parks St and Iowa Rd to Jean St. (approximately 1 mile)
The County has been awarded a grant through the Florida Department of Transportation's Local Agency Program as part of their Safe Route to School initiative. This project is recommended by the Eaton Park Neighborhood Mobility Audit. The project will close the current sidewalk gap and provide a continuous sidewalk along Maine Avenue.
The design services for this project are being performed by Kisinger Campo & Associates as a result of an agreement with FDOT. The project requires a separate engineering firm to provide construction administration, inspection, and quality control services once the construction of the project commences. It is anticipated that construction will begin in late Summer of 2026.
Roads and Drainage requested Procurement to solicit proposals for the purpose of providing CEI services for the Maine Ave SRTS project.
Request for Proposal (RFP) 25-417, Construction Engineering & Inspection (CEI) Services for Maine Ave Sidewalk from Combee Rd to Park St & Iowa Rd to Jean St was issued, and six vendors submitted proposals. On November 18, 2025, the Board approved the committee's recommendation to enter into contract negotiations with Johnson, Mirmiran and Thompson, Inc.
The attached agreement in the amount not to exceed $397,003.00 is the result of those negotiations.
