Approve Lease Agreement between Polk County and the City of Auburndale for a softball complex at Simmers Young Park. (No Fiscal Impact)

DESCRIPTION
In August 1993, Polk County (“County”) entered into Lease Agreement No. 153 with the City of Auburndale (“City”) to lease a portion of property, which is the site of the County’s Simmers Young Park, for use as a softball complex which includes five softball fields and related facilities for a term of 30 years. Additionally, the County and City entered into Lease Agreement No. 209 in November 2000 for the use of an adjacent portion of the County’s property for ancillary parking associated with the softball complex which is due to expire later this year. The City has requested to continue its use of the property for the softball complex and in an effort to consolidate the two leases a new proposed lease has been prepared which will accommodate the softball complex as well as the ancillary parking area. The proposed lease agreement is for a 20-year term which may be extended by the City for an additional 10-year period. The City approved the lease, at its Board meeting held February 19, 2024, and has executed and delivered the Lease Agreement to the County. Approving the Lease Agreement will allow the City to continue to utilize the property for a softball complex and its related operations.
RECOMMENDATION
Request Board approve the aforementioned Lease Agreement with the City of Auburndale.
