DESCRIPTION
BHC provides services to defendants who have been identified as having co-occurring mental health disorders and are in, or at risk of entering, the criminal justice system. BHC addresses the unique needs of mentally ill and developmentally disabled defendants by providing case management support necessary to reduce recidivism and ensure public safety. Defendants in BHC are linked with community-based behavioral health treatment in lieu of incarceration.
The current contract with the BHC is effective October 1, 2022 to September 30, 2025 with annual funding of $284,417 towards salaries and fringe of BHC administrative and behavioral health staff.
This first amendment will increase current FY 23/24 funding by 12% to align the total compensation of County funded positions to match the same State funded positions in an effort to remove the pay disparity that currently exists as a result of the following series of supplemental pay increases for specific State funded court positions:
* 5% COLA increase;
* The Florida Legislature, at the request of the Florida Supreme court, approved a special pay increase for positions related to due process in the courts; and
* Compression pay implemented to address longevity
The remaining subsequent Fiscal Years have built in incremental increases of 5% annually.
Additionally, this first amendment will extend the term of the contract to September 30, 2028.
This funding request was presented to and approved by the Citizen's HealthCare Oversight Committee (COC).
