DESCRIPTION
The County recently acquired a large land holding along the easterly and northeasterly side of Lake Marion for the primary purpose of protecting water quality in the Upper Kissimmee Watershed with additional uses being conservation preservation, water resources protection and establishing a critical wildlife connection and corridor. It was recently discovered that two parcels located adjacent to the west of a portion of the property previously acquired, and along the shores of Lake Marion Creek, were listed for sale. The properties are vacant contiguous parcels containing a total of approximately 4-acres. After a review of the properties, it was determined that acquiring the property would complement the County's existing property holdings and would provide access to the creek upstream of the lake. The County contacted the listing agent on behalf of the property owners, Clint Payne and Tanya Payne, regarding the purchase of the properties. Negotiations with the owners' agent have resulted in a proposed purchase price of $225,000 and the owners have executed and delivered a Land Purchase Agreement to the County.
The County Attorney's Office and the Real Estate Services Administrator have reviewed the Agreement and recommend approval. Approving the Land Purchase agreement, authorizing the issuance of funds for the purchase, and hiring American Government Services Corporation to close the transaction will allow the County to take ownership of the properties for the water quality improvements.
